Introduction
Worldwide Sports is a company in
Shippensburg, PA that provides sporting equipment to the community. Some of
their big customers include local sports teams, like little league baseball and
high school football. The current website for Worldwide Sports does not allow
any customer interaction. Customers can view items that the store sells but
there is no indication to whether those items are in stock. The paper based
system used for inventory also makes it difficult for employees to keep track
of product on hand.
Worldwide
Sports Online Site
Worldwide
Sports Online Site is a temporary endeavor to evaluate what features to use for
their website and any alternatives. The purpose of this evaluation is to
understand all alternatives and find the best solution to Worldwide Sports
current problems. The most important aspects of this website will be allowing
customers to buy products online and employees being able to update the
inventory. These goals will be realized through the Worldwide Sports Online
Site (WSOS) project.
The goal of the Worldwide Sports Online
Site project is to help them to become one of the leading retailers in the
sporting goods industry by:
- increasing the customer base by 40% in 24 months
- increasing sales by 50% in 24 months
- increasing inventory by 25% in 18 months
- reducing inventory shrinkage by 25% in 12 months

Estimation Techniques
The LEMM
Solutions Team used two techniques to come up with time estimates of the
activities and tasks in the Work Breakdown Structure. The top-down technique
was used in the “Business Case” and “Project Charter & Plan” deliverables. We
felt the top-down necessary to be used for these deliverables because of our
experienced top and middle managers to determine the overall budget and cost
for the project.
The next
technique that was used was the bottom-up technique, which was used throughout
the rest of project. We felt the bottom-up approach would be more effective and
decrease the chance of incorrect estimations. The below Work Breakdown
Structure and Gantt chart will illustrate
how the work will be subdivided and show the start & finish dates of
the project.
Work
Breakdown Structure
The
Project Life Cycle and System Development Life Cycle phases and deliverables
are outlined in the Deliverable Structure Chart which is a part of the Scope
Management Plan. Below is a more detailed description of the phases,
milestones, deliverables and activities / tasks that need to be achieved during
this project.
